The craft of making Kilims is an ancient art which can take a lifetime to develop. They are based on simple or complex geometrical patterns, in which the rich glowing colours of natural dyes seem to change and move according to the light and position of the carpet. The carpet seems alive with its own light, and gives a special magic atmosphere to a room.

To make a Kilim takes great concentration and care. First the design is made on paper - requiring many days work and revisions before it is satisfactory. Then the wool has to be dyed with carefully chosen plants. The loom is prepared and set up with the right threads, and then that the weaver can see the result of the plan and many weeks of work. The carpet has somehow gained a personality and life and light of its own.
